One of my favorite ways to use leftovers is by making a sandwich with the protein! Sandwiches can turn a dinner into a delicious and nutritious lunch.
I am a huge advocate for decreasing food waste - eating leftovers is a great way of reducing food waste. Not only does that save you from having to make more food after you throw out your leftovers, but it is a great way you can help with food insecurity.
Nearly 1 in 4 households have experienced food insecurity this year because of COVID. With Covid-19 increasing unemployment and poverty rates; we are seeing a giant jump, by the millions, for the projection of food insecurity this year.
Around the world, more than enough food is produced to feed the global population - yet people are still facing food insecurity. Keep this in mind when you are throwing away extra food at your table or purchasing food you may not eat and will end up wasting.
A way you can help is by reducing your food waste by:
- Reusing your leftovers in other meals
- Donate your nonperishable goods that you have in your home
- Volunteer at your local food bank or soup kitchen.
